The Green at Washington Village / Under Construction

$0.00

South Boston, MA

Located in South Boston's lively Andrew Square neighborhood, the first phase of the Washington Village development project includes a landscape design which integrates the area's rich history into a newly designed outdoor space, creating a welcoming environment that promotes community engagement in an area formerly dominated by heavy industry.

As a part of the larger Washington Village property, the design highlights at-grade include a versatile park space easily accessible to the public with flexible seating options, a programmable lawn— “The Green”—, and an adjacent café area for the restaurant space along the eastern edge. Elements of the larger design were inspired by the industrial past of the site and surrounding neighborhoods. The arbor, anchoring the northern edge of the park, was inspired by the industrial railroad yards of the 19th-century Washington Village, and a cannon feature at the park is a replica of the castings of cannons forged in the 18th-century foundries of the historic Washington Village neighborhood. A pedestrian-focused connection along the southern edge enhances functionality during events, providing an enhanced walking and biking experience for visitors passing through to and from Andrew Square, Joe Moakley Park, Carson Beach, and the greater residential communities of South Boston and Telegraph Hill. This blend of contemporary design and historical influence contributes to the project's distinct character in the dynamic South Boston neighborhood.

The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2024.
